Its weird how im really excited to research about places to go when im planning for a trip but i never did properly read up on places to go in Singapore other than food outlets. :P
Go to Marina South Pier to take a ferry to St John Island.
Check your timings before going down cause the ferry frequency is rather low( Every 2 hours on weekends).
To get to Marina South Pier: Take bus 402 from Marina Bay Mrt station, The same way as how you would go to Marina Barrage!
History of St John Island:
St John's Island formerly housed a quarantine station for cholera cases detected among immigrants in the late 19th century. When mass immigration was closed in mid-20th century, the island was used to house a penal settlement and a drug rehabilitation centre.
It is also heard that St John Island is haunted and some people have such experiences while exploring the abandon buildings ! It made me really excited and thrilled to explore the island! :P
The old quarantine centres were converted to Holiday camps for people who want( Or dare) to stay over in the island.
Was pretty disappointed that i didnt explore the camp site cause i chanced upon this pretty creepy photo from One North Explorer.
So you get the idea, when the chess piece gets ‘eaten’ up, the Prisoner of War gets beheaded!
There are many watch towers around the island, not supposed to go up cause they had a Danger Keep Out sign but we still went in anyway!
Houses near the Pier:
After going up the Watchtower we went to play with cats near the houses !
We went forward to explore deeper and i got a shock as i spotted someone standing at the end of the pathway.
I really got a shock when we first reached the exterior of the Mosque, i bent down to sayang a cat and 20 cats started to sprint towards me! Despite being a cat lover, its rather intimidating to have so many cats sprinting at you without notice! :O :O :O
The food was not with me anyway, it was with Andrew but all the cats started to crowd around me for some reason! :O :O
They were really hungry and skinny so we gave up some of our food to them! They were really practical, after feeding them they just stopped following us when we ran out of food. -.-
We chanced upon this old building converted into a housing area !
Spotted some old storage buildings along the way.
We had a had time looking for this apartment, its this long stairway up and it was really tiring and we had to climb over ants infested fallen tree trunks! :O :O
But being the ODAC couple(the fattest one), we went ahead anyway!
It was quite creepy from the outside anyway!
After snapping a few pictures of the Abandon apartments we went off to wait for our next ferry to Kusu Island.
Check out here for more haunted/history related information! :O
